We’re looking for an experienced baker or chef (a good all-rounder and willingness to work across areas, would be ideal) to join us to lead our kitchen in Bermondsey, from which we supply that shop and our kiosk in Camberwell. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has worked as part of a team, but who is ready to move into a leadership role.
Applicants should have experience in a kitchen environment, with experience and knowledge of baking and cooking both sweet and savoury, with a strong passion for seasonal produce and turning this into delicious, relaxed food. You should love creating, and feeding people.
At NoNo we are super passionate about making and serving the best food and drinks we can.
You will be in charge of our small kitchen, where there will be some assistance from a part-time chef/baker and minimal assistance from baristas, and you’ll be responsible for designing our menu and executing this. We are take-away only, serving sandwiches and salads or soups, cakes, cookies and a small range of homemade deli items, such as granola, chai syrup, seasonal biscuits. This is a vegetarian kitchen which is heavily plant-led. You will design and make the menu and stock the shop where you work, as well as our other shop in Camberwell.
The right candidate will understand that as well as the daily production of sandwiches, salads, cakes and cookies, they will also provide assistance in packing deliveries, ordering stock, cleaning and organising the space.
We are a small team of happy, friendly, welcoming and energetic people. We try to ensure this is an enjoyable and happy place to work. The right candidate will choose their own hours, within what works for the business, but a suggestion is 8am-4pm, 5 days a week. Part-time applications will be considered. Lots of flexibility here.
Skills and Personal attributes required:
• An active and passionate interest in seasonal, modern food and drink, bakeries, coffee shops, restaurants, local small businesses – this will ensure that you understand the standards and style we’re aiming for and will tell us that you’re probably like-minded and well-suited to this role.
• Strong communication skills – you will be part of a small, close-knit team and will need to be able to chat over Whatsapp and effectively communicating with us where necessary.
• Drive and energy – while a shift is rarely over 8 hours long, we need people who come to work full of energy and ready to work a positive, effective day.
• Consistent attention to detail and organisation skills – this goes without saying to someone applying as an experienced chef or baker, and this spreads further than just making nice things; from counting and packing orders, to planning your day and managing a busy workload, through receiving and fulfilling occasional special orders or requests, to completing a thorough closedown while observing daily compliance checks.
• A recent Food Safety 2 or 3 Certificate or otherwise willingness to do an online course. High standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety are essential.
• Responsible and reliable – you will be responsible for running the kitchen, designing and executing our menu, arranging weekend and seasonal specials. This is a large part of our business and hwat has made our shops popular, and therefore being reliable and accountable is key.
Benefits include good discounts in our shops, free drinks whilst you work, free lunch whilst you work. Opportunities to learn and develop, and to grow in the role.
Please apply via this advert, including a good cover letter explaining a bit about yourself and why you’re applying for the role with NoNo.
